Welcome to Hadleigh Choral Society

We are a 100-strong mixed choir with roots that go back over 120 years. We enjoy singing mainly from the established choral repertoire when we perform with the Colchester Symphony Orchestra and professional soloists. We have two main concerts each year which take place in the centre of Hadleigh at St Mary's Church, with toilets (including disabled) and near easy parking. We also perform a mix of lighter music at Christmas and two summer concerts.

Our aim is to promote and develop music in all its aspects.

We are a friendly but committed group of singers and we welcome new members. There are no auditions but some ability to read music and some singing experience are useful as well as a commitment to practise! You are welcome to try a couple of rehearsals without charge to see how you get on. Find out more by clicking joining Hadleigh Choral Society.

Open Rehearsal and Introduction Afternoon

On Saturday 7 September at 2.15 in the Ansell Centre, Hadleigh we are inviting singers to come and try us out ready for preparing for Mendelssohn's Elijah. If you have been a singer in the past and would like to experience the joy of singing again, or if you sing in another choir and would like to join us for a 'one-off' season or if you've heard us perform and would like 'to give it a go' then come along on the 7th and try us out! Some ability to read music is preferable but we are an un-auditioned choir and commitment and practice are as important to our performance as technical ability! We will explore the work through listening to CDs, some historical background, and plenty of lusty singing of the amazing choruses for which Elijah is famous. The rehearsal will be led by our musical director, Chris Phelps.

The session is completely free, with free loan of music, and we will break for tea and cake half-way through the afternoon.

Everyone is welcome and if you need more information please ring Liz on 01473 823791 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
